- Brief Summary of Unit: Covers large segment of text: Yaakov in Haran, wives and children. Text is combo Hebrew/English. Work is done in English with some Hebrew textual references. 4th grade. Students responded really well to the performance assessment.
- Text studied: Parashat VaYetze (Yaakov in Haran; not the ladder dream)
- What is the place of Hebrew in this particular class?
We study the text in Hebrew; the classroom discussion is in English - How many hours per week is Tanakh studied in this class?
1-3 - How many lessons (approx) are required to teach this unit, including assessment?
15 +/- - Any other issues or background about either you or your school that would be helpful in order to understand the context of your unit?
Heterogenous groupings with really wide range of background knowledge of text.
Though we ran a tuning protocol before teaching, and a LASW protocol after, it was a first attempt at a standards-based unit. There are things that still need editing.
